COVID-19 Updates

The church is now open for you to attend Sunday Services. However, the following precautions will be taken to minimize the possible exposure to the coronavirus. Thank you for your understanding and patience during this time.

When entering the church:
  • Enter the cathedral only through the exonarthex doors, and exit through the elevator side exit doors
  • Parishioners' body temperatures will be taken when entering the exonarthex. You will not be permitted to enter the church if your temperature exceeds 100.4 degrees
  • Parishioners will  be asked to fill out a health questionnaire when entering the church. You can download this by clicking the link at the bottom of this page.
  • Masks (which will be available at the exonarthex) must be worn by parishioners throughout the entire service
  • Masks and gloves will be worn by council members throughout the entire service
  • Please bring correct change for the purchase of candles
  • Council members will hand out candles
  • Nothing edible can be accepted at this time brought in from the parishioners including koliva

During the service:
  • Collection trays will be placed in the exonarthex and in the front of the church
  • The doors inside the church will stay open
  • Every other pew only will be available for seating
  • Please stay 6 feet away from anyone not in your immediate family anytime you are in the church
  • At Communion time, it is important that parishioners WAIT until directed by a Council member to come to the altar for
  • Communion - please see below for direct comments and instructions from His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas concerning Communion
  • In lieu of a Communion Cloth, the parish will have disposable napkins available to the faithful, and upon approaching the chalice, the parishioner would take a napkin, hold it under their own chin, wipe or dab their mouth, and then dispose of the napkin in a container, the contents of which will be burned after the service.
  • Antidoron will be cut and put in plastic bags by one person wearing gloves and a mask. The priest wearing a mask or face screen will distribute bags with antidoron at the end of service.

After the service:
  • No choir
  • No coffee hour
  • Church will be cleaned after every service

Notes about Communion from His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas
  • The Holy Communion will be distributed to those wishing to partake. Parishioners arereminded not to judge others based on their individual decision in this regard.
  • It is clearly understood that the Holy Communion is the very Body and Blood of Christ which cannot be tainted by any harmful thing, and that those who receive it with proper intent of mind and heart cannot be harmed by it. However, for the pastoral reason that we do not want people to allow their fear of the coronavirus to separate them from the chalice, clergy are to drop the sacrament into the opened mouths of the faithful, being careful that the spoon not come into contact with the person. If accidental contact with the individual is made, the spoon should be immediately replaced or sanitized by dipping it in grain alcohol (140 proof or more) for at least 30 seconds and dipping it in a rinse of water and wiping it dry prior to the next use.
